“Fashions from the streets”
A potential influence …
Japan’s Lolita Fashion
Japan’s Lolita Fashion is a Japanese street fashion based upon Victorian and Rococo influences. This sub-cultural fashion originated in Japan’s Harajuku district n the 1980’s. Lolita fashion has evolved into several different sub styles and it is present in many parts of the world. Because of the “do-it-yourself” – Style by me – nature of Lolita fashion, many other themes have come out of the basic Lolita frame.
The Lolita Lifestyle is a philosophy of living beautifully rather than just dressing it.
Basic Japan’s Lolita Fashion elements
Japan’s Lolita Fashion features over-knee socks, knee-length socks, stockings, and opaque tights. Never sheer tights (too sexy for Lolita). The original silhouette is of a knee length skirt or dress with a “cupcake” shape assisted by petticoats. The most popular type of Lolita blouse is a button-down shirt with a peter-pan collar, ( round collar ). The Mary Jane – a closed, rounded toe and chunky shoe – is the traditional footwear for Lolita. Headdresses are also worn.
Lolita clothes can be very expensive, particularly when you order from stores such as: Mary Magdalene, Baby, Angelic Pretty, The Stars Shine Bright and Milk. There are affordable Lolita-type of clothes in stores such as Macy’s, H&M, and Forever 21.
Now that you know how ‘staples’ dress up, and down, a lot of outfits, you just have to put your creativity to work…
